Vermont Network against Domestic and Sexual Violence  Child sexual abuse is a hidden but significant problem in every community in America, including Vermont. Experts estimate that one in three girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday (Faller, Kathleen C. (1993).

In Vermont
According to the Vermont Department For Children and Families:
2003 Child Abuse and Neglect Statistics
411 children were substantiated victims of sexual abuse in 2003. (These only represent those cases that were reported to, investigated and substantiated by Vermont's child protection agency.)
Perpetrators of sexual abuse were referred for criminal prosecution in 258 cases.

(Statistically,  more than 26,000 children in VT  are being abused.  It is time we develop a new way of thinking and being...and time for organizations to stop this horrible epidemic and create a peaceful place for children--Not for  a few, not for some, not for  411,  but for EVERY CHILD. ) Peace in our world, begins in the home.

Facts about child abuse and neglect
How could anyone abuse a defenseless child? Most of us can't imagine what would make an adult abuse a child. The worse the behavior is, the more unimaginable it seems. Yet sadly, child abuse is much more common then you might think. Child abuse cuts across social classes and all ethnicities. And the abuse overwhelmingly is at the hands of those who are supposed to be protecting the child- the parents.
